I was trying to return a shirt at H&M for a measly $24 because I thought it was too expensive, when I stumbled upon this adorable tweed blazer for $19! I ended up spending twice as much to get it and two more sweaters, wo is me...

The Very Vest

Fall has arrived, and so has my need for sweater vests. I've had this particular vest for a few years and have never had the proper garments to accompany it. There is a secret store in East LA, where there lie 50 cent bins full of clothing that you must fight with elderly ladies for. I found this little guy in one of those bins, immediately it reminded me of Paul McCartney's Magical Mystery Tour attire so of course I needed it. I knew it had potential despite the awkward stain, and there were many times I tried to re-sell it only to be denied. This vest was meant to be in my life, and the moment I found the turtle neck and mustard tights, it all came together.

The makeup on my face was done by the lovely Spencer Lopez. The kitty in my arms is the lovely Lola. (la la la la LOLA).

All That Glitters

The 1920's/30's/40's/50's/60's have always been a huge inspiration for me, and while I usually have an anxiety attack when period dress is not 100% historically accurate, I still love to borrow from eras passed. I know I have spent at least one life as a bright-eyed, bobbed-hair, flapper girl (wait, isn't that my current life?)

For tonights look I wore a piece designed by my dear friend Leah, or as she's known now "Bartlett Rand". She is a talented young designer in New York City, the day I met her she was wearing a makeshift dress from a scarf she had cleverly pinned together because she spilled something on her dress earlier in the evening. I immediately shared my french fries with her and she quickly became one of my best friends. 

I paired the gown with loads of vintage wear from my personal collection. One pair of golden heels, one feather headband, and one rabbit fur coat. I'm actually a strict vegan when it comes to my diet, and a big time animal lover. I don't like to buy new fur or leather but when I'm given a vintage piece I will usually keep it.

MGM's Cristophe Salon Shoot at the Terrace Suites

Last month I was honored to be a part of a special shoot with amazing photographer Brandon Lundby, phenomenal makeup artist Spencer Lopez, talented hair stylist Juan Mejia, and delightfully charming model Eden Walton. Spencer  and Juan work for Cristophe Salon at the MGM and asked us to take part in a photo shoot for the salon and MGM's Terrace Suites.

After our hair and makeup were done at Cristophe by Spencer and Juan we headed upstairs to the Terrace Suite. We were greeted by a large artistic triptic of a butt with black silk panties and fishnets, the room was beautifully modern and immaculately clean. Honestly we were scared to use the bathroom, but I was indeed the first to mess up that perfect little triangle fold. The sun was glowing and illuminated the Las Vegas skyline as we sat on the balcony and sipped our venti iced lattes. We were in the lap of modern luxury and ready to make the best of it with long day worth of shooting. 

The style theme was classic chic with a touch of retro. For the first look I busted out a bright orange mini babydoll style dress. Some may claim that orange hair and orange dresses should never cross paths, but I think otherwise. You can never have enough orange on orange, especially in the summer. In fact, I sometimes even mix coral lip stick with my orange hair and orange dresses. Insanity often equates to genius in my opinion. I paired the orange dress with a pair of buckle, wide heel, shoes. Although the dress was handed down in a clothing trade, both items stem from H&M. Brandon shot this in front of a circle patterned curtain to match the 60s feel of the look, as well as on the patio with the glowing city skyline as my backdrop.

The second look was to be photographed in the loft bedroom in front of a floor to ceiling crystal chandelier. The look called for stately elegance, with a touch of modernity. I was wearing a black bra underneath a sheer nude topped knee length dress from Zara. The black pumps, also from Zara, paired nicely as they matched the black pencil skirt bottom of the dress.

All in all the Terrace Suite shoot was a wonderful experience that I was happy to be a part of. If you are at all curious about the photography, makeup, and hair techniques please don't hesitate to contact these lovely people:

Midnight Espionage

Let me tell you a beautiful story about love at first sight... 

I was living in Los Angeles at the time, doing what most struggling artists do to get by, re-selling vintage clothing that I thrifted in East LA. My good friend and business partner Summer Harrison and I were very easily distracted by beautiful things. Our friend and designer Maya Yogev was having a sample sale and we refused to not take part. I browsed through a colourful selection of well tailored items when I stumbled upon a little lavender beauty hidden by itself. I didn't have much to spend and was mostly assuming I would just be shopping with my eyes, however this little baby was a mere $50. $50 at the time was my weekly food budget, but I was willing to starve to be able to drape this thing around my body and call it forever mine! I tried it on, sent a photo to my mother and begged her for spare change so that I could purchase this jacket as an early birthday gift for myself. 

Since my mom is awesome and understand my needs, she offered to buy it for me. Alas, I could eat again.. and wear this jacket whenever I pleased.

Let me not forget to mention the dark purple lace front hat. I am a collector of many things, one of these things is vintage hats. I absolutely love lace front and find any excuse I can to wear these hats. Heck, who needs an excuse?? Hats ALL of the time!
